Why Christians Are Persecuted—the Real Reason

Hands in ChainsThe Military Religious Freedom Foundation is calling for the court martial of an Air Force general who spoke about God at a National Day of Prayer event. The General stated that God has helped him in his career. The MRFF wrote in a letter to the Air Force Chief of Staff that the general should be “aggressively and very visibly brought to justice for his unforgivable crimes and transgressions.” (FoxNews.com)

A former abortion clinic owner has admitted, “We pushed sex ed on kids to create a market for abortion.” (LifeNews.com)

The Fairfax County Public School System in Virginia is preparing to teach gender identity in its classrooms, including lessons on gender fluidity and spectrum—the idea that no child is truly 100 percent boy or girl. The news has parents irate as no alternative options will be offered in place of these required classes in grades 7 to 12. The curriculum also tells students that their “gender identity” is developed over a lifetime, and that they could be heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual. (BillyGraham.org)

And, just this morning (May 27, 2015), I saw a TV news segment about a young marine who was court-martialed, had her rank reduced from lance corporal to private, and received a bad-conduct discharge for having a printed phrase from a Bible verse taped to her desk. That phrase was from Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you will prevail…” (Fox and Friends and WesternJournalism.com).

Christians are fighting these injustices in both the court system and the public arena. Even many non-Christians—most notably the Jewish celebrity Ben Stein—argue that Christians are being treated unfairly by the media and by liberal politicians.

I agree that Christians have rights, and that we should fight for those rights. The apostle Paul himself appealed to Caesar when his rights were violated (Acts 25:11).

But it’s time for Christians in this country to wake up! It’s time to see and understand where all this is coming from. Our battle is not against liberal politicians, the news media, political correctness, policies, or even laws. These are all merely symptoms of the disease. Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The real reason why Christians are being persecuted today is that the enemy—satan—cannot coexist with Christianity and will attempt to destroy anything that has to do with Jesus. satan will not be satisfied with just discrediting Christians; he must annihilate them.

That’s why—in America—Christians in the military are being silenced. That’s why business owners are being forced to cater to and celebrate homosexual activities. That’s why children in government schools are being indoctrinated by an anti-Christian agenda. That’s why prayers in the name of Jesus are being excluded from public events.

And that’s why—in other countries (for now)—Christians and their families are beheaded, hanged, shot, and/or burned just because they believe in Jesus.

The world, influenced by satan and his minions, is afraid of Jesus!

Jesus did not come to destroy the world. He came to die for it. And that’s exactly what He did. He came to give life, not to take it. His followers today have no command or mandate from Jesus to destroy those who are opposed to Christianity. Instead, He told us to love them. So why is the enemy afraid of that?

It’s simple. When someone sees the love of Jesus through His people, and chooses to follow Him as the only way to Almighty God and to heaven, satan loses. And the enemy of God can’t have that.

So what are Christians to do?

Let’s recognize that our weapons are not lawsuits, news stories, or government meetings. Those are merely the arenas in which we fight some battles. We have other weapons given to us. Truth. Righteousness. Peace. Faith. Salvation. Scripture. Prayer. (Ephesians 6:13-18) Work on growing those things in your life, and you’ll have the armor that our Father has provided for us to do battle.

Make no mistake. The enemy was defeated when Jesus rose from the dead. When Jesus returns, all those who have died in Him will return with Him in victory. And He will destroy the enemy.

So Christian, stay strong. Jesus wins!
